Getting around from Everett
- Buses: Everett has no subway station of its own. MBTA buses connect the city to Orange Line stations in its neighbors, including Malden Center, where the Haverhill Line Commuter Rail also stops.
- Chelsea next door: the Silver Line SL3 runs from Chelsea to Airport station on the Blue Line and on to South Station. Chelsea's Commuter Rail station on the Newburyport/Rockport Line opened in November 2021.
- By car: downtown Boston is a short drive across the Mystic River.
Bus routes and parking rules change from street to street. When you tour a home, time the trip to your nearest stop and ask about parking.
What you will find in Everett
- 2- and 3-family homes: the most familiar Everett house. Many owners live in one unit and rent out the rest.
- Condos: inside converted older houses as well as newer buildings.
- Single-family homes: fewer of them come up, so an instant alert helps you see each one on day one.
Using FHA for a condo? The building must be FHA-approved, or the unit needs a Single-Unit Approval. Check this early, because it can change which loan you use.
Everett taxes and help for buyers
Everett's 2026 residential tax rate is $12.62 per $1,000 of assessed value. Owners who live in their home can apply for the residential exemption. The Mayor and City Council choose the percentage each year; it was 25% for FY2025.
Programs for first-time buyers include:
- City of Everett: up to $20,000, forgivable over 5 years, for a 1- to 4-family or condo in Everett. Household income must fall between 60% and 150% of area median income under the city's FY2025 guidelines, and a homebuyer class is required. You may count as a first-time buyer if you have not owned a home in the past three years. See the city program guidelines.
- MassHousing: up to $30,000 in down payment help for income-eligible first-time buyers.
